Oswego, NY – Get out your dictionary, search the internet for little known words, and practice your spelling. It’s time for Literacy Volunteers of Oswego County’s 6th Annual Diane Falise Memorial Scrabble Fest!
To be held for September 21, at Elks Lodge #271, 132 West Fifth Street in Oswego, the 6th Annual Diane Falise Memorial Scrabble Fest promises to be an entertaining evening as participants partake in friendly competition.
LVOC Program Coordinator, Meg Henderson said, “Teams of 4 will compete against each other in four 20-minute rounds. At the end, team scores will be tallied and the top three teams will be awarded prizes, there will also be a silent auction, and for some added fun we will be awarding prizes for best team uniforms, as well as for the most pledges brought in by a team or individual.”
Scrabble Fest, which serves as a fundraiser for LVOC, helps to raise awareness of LVOC’s efforts to increase literacy in Oswego County.
A program of Oswego County Opportunities (OCO), LVOC provides free, confidential services such as: Basic Literacy that includes writing and simple math skills; English Literacy to improve English speaking, reading and writing skills along with some simple math skills; and Computer Literacy that uses computer stations in the LVOC office to teach basic computer skills.
We invite community members to enter a team or just stop down to be part of the excitement of Scrabble Fest. It’s a great way to support your community and LVOC while enjoying a fun night out with family and friends,”
Entry fee for a team of 4 is $100 and includes light refreshments. The cost for individuals wishing to attend but not compete in the event is $15. All proceeds from Scrabble Fest will benefit LVOC.
