WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Dan Maffei today (Sept. 24) announced that the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Violence Against Women has awarded a $300,000 Transitional Housing Assistance Program Grant to Oswego County Opportunities.
This funding, which will be used to help victims of domestic violence and sexual assault locate transitional housing services and secure permanent housing, is a component of the bipartisan Violence Against Women Act which Rep. Maffei co-sponsored and voted for in February 2013.
“Oswego County Opportunities serves as a lifeline to victims of domestic violence, and I am thrilled that this funding will support their work to provide essential housing services to some of the most vulnerable in our communities.” said Rep. Maffei. “Transitional housing assistance programs provide victims and their families a safe place to stay and the resources they need to secure permanent housing. This grant is yet another example of the critical role the Violence Against Women Act plays in helping victims get out of harm’s way and back on their feet.”
Oswego County Opportunities is a private, nonprofit human service agency serving 30,000 people each year through more than 50 programs including services for victims of domestic violence.
