Hannibal students were recently entertained by magic and comedy act “Magical John” for a Hannibal Home and School. (HandS) fundraiser.
Magical John stunned the audience with card tricks and enchanted stunts, all while keeping the audience laughing with his jokes. Student volunteers assisted with card tricks and optical illusions.
HandS is the parent-teacher volunteer group of the HCSD, which consists of parents, teachers, administrators, school staff and community members who recognize that children need support both inside and outside of the classroom to be successful. Participation is open to all adults connected with the district.
President of the group, Jessica Wakefield, said, “The organization is about promoting student success by reinforcing character development and cultural awareness, supporting parent involvement in education, broadening life experiences and opportunities for students and families and encouraging community participation in school.”
Fundraisers like Magical John help HandS to fund field trips, battle of the books, field days and more.
The group meets the first Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at Fairley Elementary, and childcare is provided for Fairley students Pre-K through fourth grade.
