Make a New Year’s Resolution to Support Local Business

Senator Ritchie’s Weekly Column

Looking for a New Year’s Resolution that could help your neighbors, friends and hometown?

Consider making a promise that this year you’ll buy local.

I know it’s a concept we all say we believe in. But this year, as a New Year’s Resolution, I’m inviting you to join me in taking the pledge.

Go to my website— –and sign onto my New Year’s Resolution to shop and buy locally in 2012.

We all want to see our community grow this year. We all want to see our local economy revive in the coming year.

But that can only happen if all make a commitment to support the local farmers and businesses that are the backbone of our hometowns.

For every dollar you spend dining, shopping or enjoying one of the many fine local attractions in our communities, an average of 68 cents stays right here—supporting local businesses and protecting local jobs.

Buying local is the best way you can show your small business owners and their hardworking employees that you really do appreciate them and want to help them stay and grow here in new York State.

When you visit my website, you will find links to local business listings that can help you find products, services and attractions you need to help keep your Resolution throughout the year.

I will update this list throughout the year with events and attractions to help celebrate our communities and give you ideas of things to do, places to visit, and events you won’t want to miss.

I hope you will join with me and make a New Year’s Resolution to help make our communities stronger and better.

Together we can help make life better for our friends and neighbors.
