Man Charged In Assault Of Infant

FULTON, NY ā€“ On Tuesday, Fulton Police levied assault and endangering charges against 20-year-old Carl James Kaufmann III, of Erie Street in Fulton.

The charges stem from a report of suspected child abuse.

At about 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, police responded to the Oswego Health Urgent Care in Fulton for a report of an injury to a child.

It was discovered that a four-month old infant had suffered a serious leg injury while in the care of Kaufmann earlier in the day.

It is alleged that Kaufmann did intentionally cause serious physical injury by squeezing the infantā€™s leg, causing the femur to fracture.

Kaufmann was charged with second-degree assault, a class D felony, and endangering the welfare of a child.

He was arraigned in Fulton City Court and remanded to the Oswego County Public Safety Center in lieu of $25,000 cash/$50,000 bond.

The infant was transported from Fulton to Upstate University Hospital by ambulance.
