From the Oswego County Sheriff’s Department:

On 5/20/11 at approximately 4:40 p.m. the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident on State Route 48, just north of the Midway Drive In, in the Town of Minetto.  The investigation revealed that a 2002 Mitsubishi Mirage was traveling south on State Route 48, and was being operated by 18 year old Ashley B. Yarman, of 38 Birch Lane apartment 34B, Oswego, N.Y.  Also in the vehicle was 18 year old Leijha Macewen of Fulton, N.Y.  The 2002 Mitsubishi crossed into the northbound lane, striking a 1980 Kawasaki motorcycle that was traveling north. The motorcycle was being operated by 54 year old Anthony J. Desantis, of 1875 County Route 7, Oswego, N.Y.   The Mitsubishi then continued to travel off the road and into the Oswego River.  Both Yarman and Macewen were able to self extricate themselves and refused medical treatment.

Mr. Desantis was transported from the scene by the Oswego City Fire Department, relayed to a Mercy Flight helicopter and transported to Upstate University Hospital due to his injuries. The Minetto Fire Department also assisted on the scene.  Speed and alcohol do not appear to be involved and the motor vehicle accident investigation is continuing.  No traffic citations have been issued at this time.
