OSWEGO, NY – The Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce introduced a new award to its annual Small Business Breakfast when it honored Man in the Moon Candies with the New Business of the Year Award.
The award was established to recognize the business community’s newest entrepreneurs that have been in business on a full-time basis for at least 2 years and no longer than 4 years.
Named as a tribute to her grandparents, Amy Lear opened Man in the Moon Candies in 2007, on West First Street.
Man in the Moon Candies sells homemade candies such as peanut brittle, almond bark, turtles, peanut and cashew patties, butter crunch, fudge, its famous sponge candy, and its newest addition, chocolate replicas of the historic Oswego Lighthouse.
“Amy is proudly continuing a long family tradition of making candy that began with her grandparents, Ray and Gladys Stone. Her entrepreneurial spirit and her passion for her work has helped make Man in the Moon Candies one of Oswego’s success stories,†said Executive Director of the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce Beth Hilton.
The Small Business Breakfast, held May 21 in the Hewitt Union Ballroom at SUNY Oswego, was the culmination of the Chamber’s Small Business Week Celebration, which also included a special reception hosted by the Oswego County Legislature.
