Oswego High School’s marching band stormed into Virginia for the weekend and came home with top prize. The Marching Buccaneers scored 82.20 to take first place among 9 schools at the James Madison University Parade of Champions.

Bands from four states competed in the weekend event.

Oswego competed in the AA category, the second of four classes of schools.

Also this past weekend, Central Square hosted its annual field band competition. The hosts finished second to Liverpool in the National class competition, while Phoenix was the sole entrant in the Small Schools 2 category.

East Syracuse-Minoa beat New Hartford and Jordan-Elbridge in the Small Schools 1 competition.

Phoenix hosts next weekend’s only competition, an event for smaller school marching bands.

Then, the best bands in the state meet at the Carrier Dome.
