Marching Bucs Vie for ‘Soundfest’ Crown in Pennsylvania

This weekend “The Pride of Oswego,” the Oswego High School Marching Buccaneers, will be on the road to compete in “Blue Eagle Soundfest” at Nazareth Area High School in Nazareth, Pa.

The Marching Bucs will compete in Nazareth on the turf field which has a capacity of 4,200 and the stadium is expected to be full for the show which commences at 5 p.m. this Saturday.

Oswego will be in the nightcap portion of the program and will be the first band on the field after intermission.

The Marching Bucs will be joined in the second half of the show by Phillipsburg, Hunterdon Central, Easton, Calvert Hall College High School, Susquehanna Township High School, Quakertown and Newtown.

The exhibitions will be presented by Indiana University of Pennsylvania and the host Nazareth band.

Originally, the band was scheduled to vie for the US Bands “Freedom Cup” in Philadelphia, but a variety of organizational problems on the part of the promoters resulted in a major change.

Apparently there weren’t enough bands to fill the performance roster for the original show.

Nazareth Area High School had scheduled a show and they were able to merge the two together for a more extended championship style program.

This show should prepare the Bucs for the October 27 New York State Field Band Conference Championships at the Carrier Dome as next week the final regular season show of the year will be held at Central Square.

This weekend, the Bucs will be working diligently to proudly represent the Oswego City School District.

Practices on both Friday and Saturday will be at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa., and the trip will culminate with a day-long trek to Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ.
