Margaret Mashoian Gay, 84, of Fulton died Saturday, July 9 at Oswego Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born in Niagara Falls, NY on April 12, 1927 one of four children and the daughter of Armenian immigrant parents the late, Ysaee and Baizar Mashoian. Margaret attended and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1946. She married Edward V. Gaj of Niagara Falls in 1947, living for a short time in the town of Niagara.
She had worked for several local factories while attending and graduating from Trott Nursing School as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1969. Margaret then worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, NY for two years. She also worked at St. Mary’s Manor Nursing Home on 6th Street in Niagara Falls as the 2nd floor charge nurse for 23 years retiring in 1994. While in Niagara Falls some of her favorite places to visit were Pete’s Market House and Viola Subs.
In 1995 Margaret moved to Fulton where for the past 16 years she enjoyed her granddaughters, Ashley and Lindsey. Margaret was an excellent cook preparing for and enjoying holiday and family get-togethers. She loved her church, helping others in need, playing cards and watching her favorite TV game shows, westerns and Larry King Live. Margaret travelled overseas in 1990 and 1996 to visit relatives in England and Lyon and Marseilles, France.
She was predeceased by her husband Edward V. Gaj who died in 1973 and by a brother, Michael Mashoian who died in 1998.
Surviving: a son, David (Cindy) Gaj of Niagara Falls; a daughter, Deborah Davis of Fulton; two granddaughters, Ashley and Lindsey Davis of Fulton; two sisters, Mary (Bernie) Olivieri of Grand Island and Roxanne Geerin of Niagara Falls; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services are 2 p.m. Saturday, July 23 at Fulton Church of the Nazarene, 914 Utica Street, Fulton. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Margaret’s memory to Fulton Church of the Nazarene Mission Fund, 914 Utica Street, Fulton, NY 13069. Foster Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
