Marion J. Welsch, 87, of Scranton, died Saturday evening, August 7, 2010, at Mercy Hospice in Scranton, following a lengthy illness.
Her loving husband of 66 years is Donald E. Welsch.
Born July 24, 1923, in Scranton, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary Jane (Jones) Howells. She was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School.
Marion was an active member of the Dr. Jones Memorial Congregational Church in Scranton and later of the Providence United Presbyterian Church in Scranton. Marion was a former member of the Eastern Star and was a Rotary “Paul Harris Fellow” recipient. Since 1950, she was a member of “the club” â€“ a bi-weekly pinochle card club. Marion was an avid sailor and loved spending time at Wrighter Lake in Susquehanna County.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret, Helen, Sarah and her twin, Mary; and brothers, Thomas, William and Clarence. She was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Jean Welsch.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are three sons, John H. “Jack” Welsch and wife, Linda, of Roaring Brook Township; Thomas J. Welsch and soul mate, Rhonda, of Fairport, N.Y. and David A. Welsch and wife, Dianne, of Oswego, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Donald and Kelly Welsch, Stephen and Krista Welsch, Eric Welsch, Peter Welsch and fianc?e Liz; Matthew, Ashley, and Tory Welsch; as well as four great-grandchildren: Julian, Madison, Noah and Althea.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Howard J. Snowdon Funeral Home, 1810 Sanderson Ave., Scranton. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Providence United Presbyterian Church, 1145 Providence Road, Scranton, with the Rev. Mary Jane Hitt, Pastor. Friends are asked to go directly to the church. Interment will be at Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Township.
