Mark A. Kelley Jr., 28, of Coal City, WV, formerly of Oswego, NY, peacefully passed away Wednesday March 29, 2017.
He was born on September 10, 1988, the son of Mark A. Kelley Sr. and Victoria J. Hogan Legates.
He grew up in Oswego and moved to West Virginia during his senior year at Oswego High School.
He was a frequent volunteer at Harborfest and the Oswego Farmers’ Market.
He was also a member of the Sea Cadets.
While in West Virginia, Mark was a volunteer firefighter, having started at Clintonville VFD, Rupert VFD, and was a member of the Lester VFD at the time of his passing.
He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Southwestern Amateur Radio Club, as well as being a Special Police Officer for special events in the town of Rainelle.
Mark was also a very committed member of the Charmco House of Prayer as well as the Sophia House of Prayer where he taught the children about fire safety, as well as frequently updated and maintained the church’s website.
Mark is survived by his wife, Chasity Hensley Kelley of Coal City, WV; His father and step-mother, Mark and Robin Kelley Sr. of Crawley, WV; his mother, Victoria Hogan Legates of Oswego; one daughter, Bailey K. Kelley; step-son, Cameron J. Murdock; one expected child; three sisters, Jennifer M. Kelley and Jennelle L. Legates of Oswego and Madison R. Kelley of Crawley, WV; two brothers, James R. Kelley and Carson D. Kelley of Crawley, WV; his grandparents, Frances M. Hogan of Oswego and Gary and Brenda Thompson of Union, WV; one nephew, Daimon R. Kelley; and many close friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 6, at River of Life United Pentecostal Church, 129 City Line Road, Oswego, NY 13126, beginning at 1 p.m.
All family and friends are welcome to attend.
