OSWEGO, NY – Mary C. Lafave, 91, a resident of Bishop Commons passed away on Friday May 13, 2011, at St. Luke Health Services.
Born in Oswego, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Iva (Gokey) Cloonan.
She was a graduate of St. Mary’s School, Oswego High School and the Rochester Business Institute.
Mary was a professional secretary with the Code Deciphering Department of the federal government during World War II and was a secretary with several other
businesses before retiring from the Industrial Arts Department at SUNY Oswego.
She was an avid bridge player playing in many duplicate tourneys and loved to travel the world especially with family members to Las Vegas.
Mary was also an avid lighthouse collector.
Surviving are her son, Thomas (Susan) Lafave of Pennelville; two daughters, Kathy (George) Harrington of Scriba and Carol (David) Sherwood of Fort Worth, Texas; three grandsons, Thomas E. Lafave, George L. Harrington and Daniel J. Lafave; two great-grandsons, Matthew and David Lafave; a brother, Joseph (Ginny) Cloonan of
Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard Lafave; two sisters, Loretta Brancato and Marjorie Lagoe; and a brother, Kenneth Cloonan.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 9 a.m. from St. Mary’s Church.
Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m.
