OSWEGO – Mayor Billy Barlow announced the winners of the float contests following the city of Oswego’s Fourth of July Independence Day Parade.

Despite the excessive heat on Sunday, the city’s annual Independence Day Parade cruised down State Route 104 through downtown Oswego with several fire departments, bands, organizations and civic clubs participating and interacting with parade attendees.

The parade participants and floats were judged as they passed East Park (Washington Square) by Oswego City Clerk Mark Tesoriero, Council Vice President Kevin Hill and Executive Director of the Oswego Chamber of Commerce Katie Toomey.

The following groups won these awards:

Best Float Award – Children’s Museum of Oswego
Best Community Float Award – H. Lee White Maritime Museum
Most Creative Float Award – Oswego Tree Stewards
Best Youth Performance Award – Mexico School Marching Band
Best Non-Youth Performance Award – Performance Fitness & Kyokushin Karate

Mayor Barlow thanked the judges, the parade participants and those who braved the summer heat to attend the parade and praised the concert and fireworks in Breitbeck Park Sunday evening.

“Despite the heat, we had a successful parade and had a large crowd for our concert and fireworks in Breitbeck Park,” Barlow said. “Thanks to our sponsors Price Chopper, Novelis and Pathfinder Bank we were able to put on a great all day celebration and continue the rich tradition of recognizing Independence in the city of Oswego for another year. The city of Oswego Economic Development Office along with our Department of Public Works, Oswego Fire Department and Oswego Police Department worked extremely hard to continue this tradition this year and I am already looking forward to planning and improving our Independence Day Celebration in 2019.”
