Mayor Says Thanks for Tree Lighting Effort

To The Editor:

Special Thanks To Christmas Volunteers and Sponsors:

It is refreshing and encouraging to know that during the toughest economic times since the Great Depression, our community came together with hard working and dedicated volunteers and sponsors to carry on the spirit of Christmas with the 7th Annual City Christmas Tree Lighting Jubilee. This event is a joint effort between the City of Fulton and the Fulton City School District. This event originated during the Hayden Administration and has continued its success. During the first years of the event Mayor Hayden and his wife Sharon played the part of Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus and served on the event committee.

This event included donuts, hot chocolate, gifts from Santa with a photo, arts and crafts, balloon animals, face painting and entertainment; all free thanks to the sponsors and committee volunteers. The All Saints Episcopal Church donated a warm space inside for the crafts, face painting and balloon animals while next door inside the Municipal Building, people were enjoying the talents of Ethel Canfield and daughters as they led the little ones in bell ringing, a very popular portion of the program and an annual tradition.

A special thanks to:
Our generous sponsors: Dunkin Donuts, Fulton Savings Bank, Mimi’s Drive-In, Oswego County Ambulance, Johnston’s LP Gas, Pathfinder Bank, Marine Corps Auxiliary, Fulton Athletic Boosters, Knapp Electric, Canalview Dental, Walmart and Brewer & Brewer.

Our committee members who work all year to plan: Bob & Sandy Weston, Carol Ireland, Jay Foster, Kathy Yahner, Roy & Debbie Clark, Tom Sawyer, Sara Bort, Debbie Fitzsimmons, Ethel Canfield, Maureen Ball, Bill Lynch Joann Cavalier and last but not least Superintendent Barry Ostrander and the many extra volunteers that evening who are always there willing to help in any way.

Our Entertainment that filled City Hall with beautiful music: Canfield Family/Home School Program Songs and Dance, Fairgrieve Glee Club and the Lanigan 5th & 6th Grade Christmas Chorus

With Best Holiday Wishes to All,

Mayor Ronald Woodward
