Oswego-native Mella McGrath, 73, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at her home at 216 Duer Street surrounded by her husband and loving family.
A graduate of Oswego High School and attendee of SUNY Oswego, Mrs. McGrath worked in the accounting field at several businesses in the Oswego area, including the Beneficial Finance Company, Columbia Mills and the New York State Power Authority.
She was a member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Oswego. For the past 18 years she served on the church’s Diaconate board. She also served as secretary to the Pastor.
Mella is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, John W. McGrath Jr.; a son, Robert DeAmbra of Brooklyn, NY; a daughter, Katherine Carter of Ho Ho Kus, NJ; a sister, Kathryn Brainard of Monona, Iowa; and four grandchildren, Kristen Carter, Justin Carter, Eve DeAmbra and Talia Carter.
Calling hours are 4-7 p.m. Tuesday July 5 at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany Street, Oswego. A memorial service will be held at 11a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Church, with burial to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Reform Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
