OSWEGO, NY – “Play On,” a three-act comedy by Rick Abbott, with Inez Manor Parker directing, will be mounted at the Church of the Resurrection as a fundraiser for the church and the Oswego Players.
Two of Players’ strong male leads, Nelson Metz and Mark Mirabito, will be working within a talented, ensemble cast to showcase this fast-paced and witty play within a play.
Metz (Jerry Dunbar) has a distinguished list of credits in acting and directing, beginning with “You Can’t Take it With You” in 1998 to last year’s comedy, “Rumors.”
His sustained drunk scene in 1996’s “Moon Over Buffalo” was nothing short of hilarious.
He has directed six very successful shows, and is particularly adept at farce. He glides easily through the various genre’s from drama (“Witness for the Prosecution”) to musical theatre (“Oliver”) and to comedy (way too many to mention).
It should prove interesting to see his take on the part of the Director in “Play On.”
Mirabito (Saul Watson & Dr. Forbes) has been a staple in Oswego Players’ shows since “Auntie Mame” in 1992.
He, too, successfully tackles the gamut of drama (“Death of a Salesman”), comedy (“The Star Spangled Girl”), and musicals (The Fantasticks).
Mirabito has a very busy schedule and needed to cut back on his theatre activities.
A determined Parker, however, persuaded him to reprise the role he created in “Play On” staged in 1994 by the late Harold Nichols.
It will be good to have him back on stage.
To fill out the male cast members, look for Ed Lewis (Henry Benish) and Kyle Watson (Billy Carewe & Steven Sellers).
Lewis has had an extensive career in local theatre, working with the Red Creek and Fulton Community theatre groups and Oswego Players. He was seen last summer in Parker’s spectacular “Meet Me in St. Louis.”
In his “spare” time, he hunts, fishes and serves his community as Hannibal Town Justice.
Watson is a recent addition to the Players’ family.
He has performed in “Miracle on 34th Street,” and “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” and is now ready to tackle “Play On.”
Female cast members include Sherri Baker, Jennifer Snow, Jennifer Belt-Patterson, Molly Brown, Carol Dufrane and Amanda Mosher.
“Play On” will be presented in dinner theatre format at the Church of the Resurrection on Oct. 22 and 23.
Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.; show begins at 7:30 p.m.
Cost of the dinner and show is $25.
Show only ticket is $10.
Reservations may be made by calling the Players’ Box Office at 315-343-5138.
