OSWEGO, NY – At about 10:18 a.m. Thursday, deputies charged a Mexico couple with welfare fraud.
Colin P. Collins, 45, of 38 North St., Mexico, was arrested for fourth-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree welfare fraud, both class E felonies.
The arrest stems from an investigation conducted by the Oswego County Department of Social Services.
He allegedly obtained more than $2,000 in benefits due to not disclosing incomes that would have made him otherwise disqualified.
Mr. Collins was arraigned in the Town of Volney Court and ROR’d.
He is to return to Mexico Town Court on Oct. 21.
At the same time, Julie A. Collins, 44, of same address, was charged with first-degree offering a false written instrument for filing, along with the two previous charges for Mr. Collins stemming from the same incident.
Ms. Collins was also arraigned in the Town of Volney Court and ROR’d.
She is to return to the Town of Mexico Court on Oct. 21.
