MEXICO – Great sportsmanship was on display for Mexico Academy & Central Schools’ annual Mexico Idol on October 19, where 12 students from the high school chorus sang, competing for the first place title.
Guest judges provided feedback to each student as they sang a rendition of their choice.
After the first round, five contestants proceeded to round two as the judges’ choice.
The final five sang a second song, and then the audience voted for the winner.
In third place was Kiara Richer who sang “Angel Down” by Lady Gaga.
Second place went to Karlin Twiss who sang “Teenage Fantasy” by Jorji Smith.
And first place went to Josh Washer who sang “Take Me to Church” by Hozier.
Washer’s second song “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran got the audience snapping along and received a standing ovation.
Mexico High School Chorus Teacher Laura Washburn thanked the community for attending and the guest judges for their time.
She also congratulated all students on a job well done.
Future musical productions include the high school holiday chorus concert December 5 and the high school holiday band concert December 6, both at 7 p.m.
