Michael Phillips will present a solo piano recital at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, at the Church of the Ressurection, 120 West Fifth Street. Michael has been a private piano student of Marcia Pavel Sideris since he was six years old, and he was recently featured as a piano soloist with the Oswego High School Orchestra Seniors Concert held early in June. Mike also was the first pianist to be honored in the Oswego County Music Association Competition. His Sunday recital program will feature selections from the works of classical composers J.S. Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Shumann, Brahms, Greig, Debussey, and Prokofiev. The final piano selection will be a piece composed by Michael in celebration of his eleven years of piano studies.
Michael also plays cello, string bass, guitar, accoustic guitar, accordian, and drums. He is the cello section leader for the OHS Symphonic Orchestra which is the honors orchestra at the high school. He also plays cello with the Oswego County Youth Orchestra and string bass with the Oswego HIgh School Jazz Band. Michael recently received the National Orchestra Award.
His future plans upon graduation are to attend SUNY Oswego, majoring in teaching English to students of other languages. He is the son of Mike and Maria Phillips.
