Military: Sandy Creek Grad Completes Basic Training

Army Pvt. Jessie L. Drake has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.

He is the son of Roberta White of Coho Lane, Altmar, N.Y., and Jimmy Drake of Cozy Lane, Richmond, Va.

Drake is a 2009 graduate of Sandy Creek High School, N.Y.

PFC Drake was stationed with the 360th Transportation Company, 68th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 43rd Sustainment Brigade, Fort Carson Colorado after he graduated AIT from Fort Leonard Wood Missouri and received the MOS of 88M10, Motor Transport Operator. Drake is Currently deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as an M240B gunner, MATV/MaxxPro driver and is expected to return home in late September – early October 2011. PFC Drake plans to marry his high school sweetheart Amanda Marie Wild and start a family. He is unsure at this time if he will make a carreer out of the US Army or return to civilian life.
