MINETTO – Students in Stephanie Marino’s first grade class at Minetto Elementary School are doing their part to save the Earth, one cute project at a time.
After the youngsters learned all about protecting the Earth and its natural resources, Marino taught them how to reduce waste, reuse items and recycle when possible.
The teacher collected 20-ounce soda bottles and told the students that instead of tossing them in the trash can, they could be used for a creative purpose.
After she cut the bottom third of the plastic bottle off, students filled the makeshift pots with soil and grass seed to the top of colorful googly eyes and neon cotton ball for a nose.
As the grass begins to sprout, it’ll look like hair for the Earth Day grass heads.
All students took the project home to enjoy and watch how tall the “hair” grows.
