Minetto Hoedown Provides Different Physical Education Activity

MINETTO, NY – The Country Hoedown is an annual Minetto Elementary School physical fitness event.

It was sack racing time for Emily Sgro at the Minetto Elementary Hoedown event.

Country music blares, kids and staff donned cowboy books and western gear as the Minetto Elementary School recently celebrated the annual old-fashioned “hoedown.”

Physical Education teachers Julie Tubolino and Don Fronk coordinated the events as the students danced, raced and exercised during the day-long event.

This project has been going on for several years.

Fronk noted, “The students prep for this for quite some time an anxiously await the arrival of the event. It is fun for the students while providing a unique physical education experience.”

The students enjoy the various special events and many dress in western “duds.”

Country line dancing kicks off the hoedown, as the students fill the gymnasium floor with boots stompin’ to the music.

This is followed by a variety of western themed events.

The students participate in the pony express race, the grub run, posse race and pig calling along with the hat throwing.

The “hoedown” is a different form of physical education.

Students exercise, learn teamwork and have fun and really never realize this is “gym class.”
