Minetto United Methodist Church to be Guest Chef at Oswego County Salvation Army

The people of the Minetto United Methodist Church will be providing the next Salvation Army Guest Chef dinner on November 12 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

They will be serving roast turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, and squash.

Members of the advisory board will provide desserts and beverages.

The dinner will be at the Salvation Army Citadel, 73 W. Second St., Oswego.

The Guest Chef dinners are organized by the advisory board and offered to the community to raise funds to support the services of the Army throughout Oswego County. There is ample parking and the building is fully accessible. Dinners may be enjoyed in our dining room or carried out.

The Minetto Church has built up a reputation over the years for providing a popular roast turkey Harvest Dinner each October. Besides the tasty homemade food, its unique drive-through service enables about 900 complete dinners to be served in fewer than three hours.

The advisory board is developing a schedule of Guest Chef dinners for next year. The first one will be provided by Rudy’s Lakeside Restaurant on March 11, 2014.

There are opportunities for individuals and groups to stand with the Christmas kettles.

Major Kathryn Purvis recently said that, “The work of The Salvation Army for people throughout Oswego County is especially important during the holidays and winter months. The Guest Chef dinners and the contributions to our Christmas kettles are vital to our mission all year. We thank the people, businesses, and organizations of Oswego County for their support of our work.”

The Oswego County Salvation Army Corps recently completed its first year of service, having been formed through the joining of the former Fulton and Oswego Corps and several Service Units in other parts of the County. Fresh-cooked meals are served and food pantries are available in both Fulton and Oswego and many other services are provided to individuals and families in need throughout Oswego County. Worship services are held at the Oswego location. The Corps is under the leadership of Majors James and Kathryn Purvis.
