More Than 1,000 Students Honored at Oneonta’s 127th Commencement

ONEONTA, NY – More than 1,000 graduates were recognized at SUNY Oneonta’s 127th commencement on May 14.

Students who completed the requirements for bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees and certificates of advanced study participated in three main ceremonies in the Dewar Arena of the Alumni Field House.

Broadway producer Hal Luftig (1979) and set designer Neil Mazzella (1973) addressed the graduates and received honorary doctorates.

The following area residents graduated from SUNY Oneonta on May 14:

Kayla Distin of Fulton, NY (13069), graduated Cum Laude with a BS degree in Biology;

Kaylie Allen of Oswego, NY (13126), graduated with a BS degree in Environmental Science;

Melissa Murphy of Pennellville, NY (13132), graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS degree in Childhood Education (1-6);

A liberal arts institution with a strong focus on undergraduate research and service learning, SUNY Oneonta consistently gains recognition for delivering excellence and value.

The college has been named to Kiplinger’s list of “100 Best Values in Public Colleges” for 10 years running and sits at No. 9 on the 2016 U.S. News and World Report list of the best public institutions in the region.

SUNY Oneonta enrolls 6,000 students in its 70 undergraduate majors and 14 graduate programs.
