HANNIBAL – Shawn Morgan, the recently named Dennis M. Kenney Middle School Principal, is no stranger to the Hannibal Central School District.
Prior to his Aug. 8 start date, Morgan worked for the Central New York Regional Information Center as a district data coordinator, with a majority of his assignment within Hannibal schools.
He worked with all three buildings and district-level departments to ensure accurate data collection and reports, and he helped use data analysis for educational impact.
During that two-year time span, he said, he missed the day-to-day interaction with students he had as a teacher and math instructional coach within the Syracuse City School District.
“I applied specifically here (at DMK) because of my experience with teachers and the district,” Morgan said. “We really are about doing what’s right for kids first.”
Throughout the 2016-17 school year, Morgan will focus on strengthening the professional learning communities that already exist at DMK.
He will also concentrate on collaborating with teachers to develop additional strategies to help struggling students.
During the course of the year, Morgan will regularly visit classrooms and establish strong connections with teachers and students alike.
Morgan received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a literacy focus in 1995 from SUNY Cortland, a master’s degree in elementary education with a literacy focus in 2005 from SUNY Cortland, and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership from Syracuse University in 2014.
