The rating is the result of several inspection and assessment components: annual health inspections by the New York State Health Department, quality measures, and staffing.

The NYS Health Department inspection process looks at all major aspects of care at Morningstar.

Trained, objective surveyors check on quality care, review medical records, and visit with residents regarding their care.

The results of these inspections form the foundation for the overall rating.

Quality measures are based on clinical data and indicate the values of 24 measures ranging from general and acute health care to feedback from residents, and family satisfaction.

It provides an in-depth look at how the facility is performing on providing its residents with all aspects of care. Included in quality measures are outcomes for the facility’s short term residents regarding their successful rehabilitation and discharge.

“I’m happy to say that in the area of quality measures Morningstar received a 5 star rating!” said Administrator Andrea Doviak. “Quality measures provide a snapshot of our residents’ health, physical and mental functioning, and overall well-being.”

Ratings for staffing indicate the percentage of healthcare professionals such as registered nurses, certified nurse assistants, and physical therapists to the number of residents and reflects the quality of care available to the residents.

“Under the guidance of Director of Nursing Sharon Noto her staff, which includes a full complement of RNs and CNAs, ensures that our residents are receiving the attention and quality of care they deserve,” said Doviak. “Additionally our therapy department offers access to physical, occupational, and speech therapists that prepare our clients to return to their lives as independently as possible.”

Doviak credited the entire Morningstar staff for achieving the 4 star rating.

“Our rating is truly and interdisciplinary effort.  Every staff member in every department plays a vital role in the care for our residents. From our healthcare professionals and recreational therapists to our nutrition department and maintenance department, this rating is a reflection of everyone’s efforts and their commitment to our mission of providing people in our community with healthcare, customer service and support needed so that they may achieve their individual best quality of life.”
