OSWEGO, NY — Move Along Inc. is hosting its second annual “Move 5K” run-walk-wheelchair race Sept. 23 at Green Lakes State Park in Fayetteville.
The event is a fundraiser for the Upstate Physical Therapy Club and Move Along Inc., which emphasizes physical and cognitive growth through programs such as wheelchair basketball and adaptive cycling and ice hockey.
The MOVE 5K includes a 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) trail run/walk around Green Lake and Round Lake and a wheelchair road race to raise funds and awareness for Move Along Inc. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with the race kicking off at 9:30 a.m.
Other highlights of the day include a shorter fun race for children, post-race refreshments and live bands, as well as a health fair in celebration of National Physical Therapy month. Physical therapists from Sports PT will be on-site to provide injury screening and students from the Onondaga School of Massage will provide massage.
Greg Callen founded Move Along in 2009 with the mission to provide accessible outlets for individuals with disabilities to achieve personal gratification, growth and integrity through participation and competition.
When great fundraisers such as the MOVE 5K occur not only do individuals attending benefit, but ultimately the quality of life of a number of youth and adults in our communities with physical limitations are provided the opportunity to engage in resources funded by such events.
There is still time for participants to register and awards will be provided to the top three males and females in each age division and to the top three overall male and female finishers in the run/walk.
