Oswego – Mrs. Helen M. Ciesla, 92, residing at 165 Ellen St., Oswego, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 30, 2012.
She was born during a blizzard on January 18, 1920, in Oswego, NY, daughter of the late Stanislaw “Stanley” and Helen (Szczebak) Krawczyk.
As a young woman, Helen worked at Taggerts, Ox Heart Candies and Osteds.
At age 39, she went to The Syracuse School of Cosmetology then worked with her sister, Agnes, at ‘Agnes’ Beauty Shop.’
When Hill Crest Nursing Home opened she joined the staff as the beautician, holding that position for 13 years.
She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, bingo and crafts.
For years she was very involved with the Hill Crest Christmas Craft Show.
During the last six months, she crocheted more than 100 scarves giving them to her many visitors.
Helen was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Walter “Skiba” Ciesla; and her brothers and sisters: John Krawczyk, Sadie Krawczyk Beginski, Rose Krawczyck Prucnal, Louise Krawczyk Wilk, Sophie Krawczyk Mumford, Peter Krawczyk, Joseph Krawczyk, Stanley Krawczyk, Agnes Krawczyk Celestian and Walter Krawczyk.
She is survived by her three children: Carol (Glenn) Pearsall of Johnsburg, NY, Connie (Jack) Reingold of San Diego, Calif. and Walter (Cynthia) Ciesla Jr. of Oswego, NY; six grandchildren: Christine Botting, Adam Pearsall, Heather Browning, Stephanie Ciesla, Jessica Ciesla and Michael Reingold; and one great-grandchild, Mckenna Pearsall.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, at the Nelson Funeral Home.
Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held 4-7 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home, 11 W. Albany St., Oswego.
