OSWEGO — SUNY Oswego music faculty members Alan Martin and Mihoko Tsutsumi will perform in a voice recital at 3 p.m. Dec. 2, in Sheldon Hall ballroom as part of the music department’s Focus on Faculty Series.
Martin, who specializes in voice and musical theatre, and Tsutsumi, director of choral activities for the music department, plan a repertoire that will include a song set by British choral composer Gerald Finzi, operatic selections from works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and musical theatre selections.
A new faculty member at SUNY Oswego, Martin holds a doctorate in vocal and choral pedagogy from the University of Kansas. Among his voice teachers, Martin lists Kirstie Hemple, Andrew Doig, Paul Keohone, Gayla Blaisdell, Maria Kanyova and John Stephens. Martin is a member of the Pan-American Vocology Association, American Guild of Musical Artists and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
Tsutsumi has a doctorate in music education with an emphasis on choral conducting from Florida State University. She directs and accompanies on piano the college’s choral groups, including State Singers, College Choir and Festival Chorus. Shoichiro Tahara was her voice teacher. Tsutsumi is a member of the American Choral Directors Association and teaches and conducts for the Oswego Youth Conservatory.
