Martani described the type of work that she does with National Grid customers.

She works out of National Grid’s main office in Syracuse, but covers several counties in Central New York.

Martani is in contact with social service agencies in each of her counties, such as Oswego County Catholic Charities, the Salvation Army, and the American Red Cross.

As she deals with families who can not meet their financial obligations when it comes to their utility bills, she finds many other financial problems, such as out of work, mental issues, foreclosures, and bankruptcy.

In Jefferson County, Martani finds that veterans, soldiers and their families have a higher rate of problems paying their utility bill.

The message that Martani left with the Rotarians was that there is help for people who are in trouble with their finances.

If you know of a family in trouble, have them contact one of the social agencies mentioned above.
