By Senator Patty Ritchie
Getting New Yorkers back to work is my top priority as your state senator.
For the past two years, I have worked across the political aisle with Governor Cuomo and the leaders of the Assembly to help improve our economy by reducing government spending and lowering taxes.
And investments we’re making in economic development across the region hold the promise of a brighter jobs future for our communities. Right now, $785 million is being made available for job creation and community development across the state, with $200 million targeted at the Central and Northern New York regions.
But we all know someone who needs to find work right now. And that’s why I’m pleased to let you know about a few ways I’m working to connect job-seekers with employers who are looking to hire.
This month, I am sponsoring two Job and Career fairs, in Ogdensburg and Fulton.
The events are modeled on last year’s successful job fairs, the first ever sponsored by a state senator representing this district, and are each expected to include more than 50 local employers, many with openings they need to fill right now.
Like last year, hundreds of job seekers can expect to find new positions at dozens of respected companies across the region.
The job fairs are being held:
Sept. 19; 2:30 to 5:30 p.m., Odd Fellows Hall, Linden Street, Ogdensburg
Sept. 26, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., War Memorial, West Broadway, Fulton
Visit my website www.ritchie.nysenate.gov for more information and a list of participating employers, which is updated frequently.
While you’re there, be sure to check out the link to my online Jobs Bank, which includes searchable listings for more than 70,000 job openings across New York State and in our region, as well as tips and information to make your job search successful.
Getting our economy moving again is hard work, but that won’t stop Central and Northern New Yorkers from being a part of the Empire State’s resurgence.
I hope to see you at one of my jobs fairs.
