OSWEGO – The New Horizons Chorus is beginning to prepare for its spring and summer season and invites new singers to join.
The chorus will be singing a selection of songs about sunshine and rain with some rainbow songs to bridge the gap. Included will be such numbers as, “Don’t Let the Rain Come Down,” “Singing in the Rain,” “Raining Sunshine,” “Blue Skies,” and “Sun is Gonna Shine.” Also, “Over the Rainbow” and “I’m Always Chasing Rainbows.”
The Oswego County New Horizons Chorus began in 2008. The group draws members from across Oswego County as well as some from Cayuga and Onondaga counties.
The chorus currently has about 45 singers that are seniors 50 years of age or older and come from all walks of life and levels of musical background.
They perform together for the pure enjoyment of music, to socialize with others who love music, and to entertain audiences.
The group performs for festivals, park programs, senior residential facilities, and church groups; offering a variety of musical selections that include everything from classics to pops, and including golden oldies.
The chorus is directed by Mary Lou Bjorkman who is also the director of Concinnity, the select women’s vocal ensemble.
The New Horizons Chorus rehearses every Tuesday, 9 to 10:30 a.m., at the Minetto United Methodist Church.
The church is fully accessible and is located at the corner of State Route 48 and County Route 8, one block south of the Stewarts Shop, midway between Oswego and Fulton, in the village of Minetto.
