New York State Conservation Council President to Speak August 16 at Sportsmen’s Show

CLAYTON, NY – Chuck Parker, an avid outdoorsman, conservationist, and president of the New York State Conservation Council, will speak about the Council and its activities on August 16 at 11 a.m. at the 2014 Clayton-1000 Islands Gun and Sportsmen Show in Clayton.

The New York State Conservation Council is comprised of county federations, gun clubs, conservationists, and member organizations representing more than 300,000 sportsmen and sportswomen across New York State.

Parker, named a Hero of Conservation in 2011, said, “The council advocates for sportsmen in Albany, encourages respect for the natural environment, sound teaching of safety practices, and getting involved in activities to conserve, protect, and perpetuate our forest lands, wildlife, fisheries, and scenic and recreational areas.”

Council members are involved in many diverse activities within the umbrella of hunting, fishing and trapping, including fly fishing programs, 4-H youth shooting sports, hunter safety training, Envirothons, and conservation field days in addition to serving on the New York State Conservation Fund Advisory and the New York State Fish and Wildlife management boards.

On August 17 at the show Spider Rybaak, author of several guidebooks for anglers, will speak on Fishing in the 1000 Islands in All Seasons at 1 p.m.

The Clayton-1000 Islands Gun and Sportsmen Show takes place at the Cerow Recreation Park Arena in Clayton. The event is organized by the Clayton Rotary Club. Show hours are 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. August 16 and 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. August 17. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for military with ID; children under 12 enter free.
