Joan Newell, MD, is being welcomed to Oswego Hospital’s medical staff and Port City Family Medicine, located at 33 E. Schuyler St., in Oswego.
Dr. Newell earned her medical degree from the University of Vermont and completed her internal medicine residency at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
During her residency she was presented an Excellence in Teaching Award three different years.
She attended Middlebury College in Vermont, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in molecular biology and Russian.
Dr. Newell, an internist, has been providing primary care services for the past three years at an outpatient clinic at the Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca.
She said she was looking forward to providing exceptional quality care to those 18 years and older at the Port City Family Medicine.
“I’m excited to join the Oswego practice, both the physicians and staff possess a very positive approach to treating patients with a focus on complete care,” Dr. Newell said.
Dr. Newell added that, it’s a philosophy she shares.
“It’s really a partnership in helping a patient throughout their care and I receive great satisfaction as I watch their amazing progression to an improved health status,” she said.
“We are very much looking forward to Dr. Newell joining our practice,” said Corliss Varnum, MD. “Her skills and knowledge complement our services and I know she will provide compassionate, high quality care to our patients.”
Dr. Newell and her husband, a SUNY Oswego microbiology professor, have two young children.
She enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, biking and running.
Port City Family Medicine includes Dr. Varnum; Christina Liepke, MD; who are board certified in family medicine and Matthew Liepke, MD; who is board certified in both pediatric medicine and internal medicine.
