OSWEGO COUNTY – Yesterday, May 14th, 2026, at around 10:03 AM, a suspicious vehicle entered an area designed for Sheriff’s employees’ vehicles or police vehicles only. This vehicle was equipped with a PA system and made a threatening remark. This was observed by an on-duty Sheriff’s Office Investigator who was familiar with the vehicle, a white 2019 Ford F350, and it’s operator, 35-year-old Nathan Novak, due to previous law enforcement interactions. She then began to follow the vehicle, observed several traffic violations, and attempted a traffic stop. Novak refused to stop and led police on a pursuit through the City of Oswego and the Town of Scriba to the operator’s home in New Haven. Once stopped, Novak surrendered to police and a loaded shotgun was located in his vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded two Billy clubs, which are illegal to possess in New York.
The remark made at the Public Safety Center by Novak was heard as “Tell Bushwald he is done”. There is no Sheriff’s Office employee named Bushwald and Novak invoked his fifth amendment right after being placed in custody, so the meaning behind it remains a mystery.
Novak was charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Rifle, or Shotgun in a Sensitive Location, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the fourth degree, and ticketed for driving without a license, failing to obey (stop for) a police officer, and other traffic violations.
Novak was arraigned in Oswego County CAP Court yesterday evening and remanded to jail in lieu of $15,000 cash or $30,000 Bond.
The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the pursuit by the Oswego City Police Department and the New York State Police.
