COVID-19 Statistics Update, August 11, 2020

OSWEGO COUNTY – According to the Oswego County Health Department, as of 3 p.m., there has been one additional case of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) since yesterday.

The cumulative reported number is 259 cases across the county and of those, 249 have recovered and four have died.

Oswego County Legislature Chairman James Weatherup posted his weekly COVID-19 news brief video today. In the video, he discusses new changes made to the county’s COVID-19 dashboard, which now includes a map of a range of total confirmed cases in each municipality. The county has also began releasing the number of total hospitalizations as a result of COVID-19.

“We recognize that some of the other larger counties have released some of these details earlier than Oswego County,” Weatherup said. “It’s important to recognize that as a rural county, we have a much smaller population and very different demographics than Onondaga and many other counties. Releasing more detailed information before this would have jeopardized the privacy of infected patients. We are now at a level where providing additional details on our site dashboard is not likely to put our patients and our families’ personal information at risk. I want to emphasize that regardless of the number of cases in any community, the virus is being transmitted and everyone needs to continue to follow preventative measures.”

He also discussed the third of four community videos, “Collaboration,” which was released today. More information on these videos can be found here[3].

Today’s statistics are below:

Oswego County:[4] (as of 3 p.m.) Note, the total number of positive cases is cumulative and the number of recoveries and deaths are of those numbers.

  • Total # of active cases: 6 (no change from yesterday)
  • Total # of positive cases: 259 (yesterday: 258)
  • Total # of recoveries: 249 (yesterday: 248)
  • Total # of hospitalizations: 25 (this data will now be included in Oswego County Today’s COVID-19 updates.)
  • Total # of deaths: 4 (no change from yesterday)
  • Total # tests: 29,936 (yesterday: 29,664)
  • Total # of negative results: 29,473 (yesterday:29,202)
  • Total # of people in mandatory isolation/quarantine: 73 (yesterday: 70)
  • Total # of positive antibody tests: 73 (as of Aug. 6)
  • Total # of negative antibody tests: 3,073 (as of Aug. 6)

The county has stopped releasing data for pending results, number of people in precautionary quarantine and total number completed/released from monitoring. Data will not be released on Saturdays or Sundays. Antibody test results are released once a week.

All known contacts of COVID-19 positive patients are being notified. In the event that a known case had public exposure when they were contagious, such as someone who worked in a restaurant, the county health department would alert citizens through the news media and social media.

Municipalities With Cases: The ranges remain unchanged since yesterday, August 10.

No confirmed cases: Albion

1-5 confirmed cases: Amboy, Boylston, Hannibal, Minetto, New Haven, Orwell, Palermo, Parish, Redfield, Sandy Creek, Williamstown

6-10 confirmed cases: Mexico, Oswego Town, West Monroe

11-20 confirmed cases: Constantia, Granby, Richland, Schroeppel, Scriba, Volney

21-30 confirmed cases: Hastings

31-40 confirmed cases: City of Oswego

41-50 confirmed cases: No municipality

Over 50 confirmed cases: City of Fulton

 

County Updates:

  • The Oswego County Office for the Aging will distribute farmer’s market coupons to qualifying seniors August 12 at the Lighthouse Mexico Church of God, Mexico (11 S. Jefferson St.) 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • The Oswego County Human Resources Department will offer the Oswego County Patrol Officer and Village Police Officer civil service exam Saturday, Sept. 26. Applications for the exam are due by 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19. Applications and additional information can be obtained by emailing [email protected][5], or by calling 315-349-8209[6], and at  http://www.oswegocounty.com/civilservice[7]. The Municipal Police Training Council fitness requirements and a link to the exam study guide are also posted on the web site.
  • The county asks residents to respond to the 2020 census. To fill out the census, click here[8] or call 1-844-330-2020 (English) or 1-844-468-2020 (Spanish).

  • Total # of positive cases: 422,003 (yesterday: 421,336)
  • Total # of deaths: 25,211 (yesterday: 25,204)

  • Governor Cuomo has partnered with New Jersey Governor Murphy and Connecticut Governor Lamont to create a joint travel advisory for individuals traveling from states with significant community spread of COVID-19, requiring a quarantine for 14 days when visiting their states.
  • Based on each region’s infection rate, schools across New York State are permitted to open this fall but each school district must have a testing and tracing plan and will decide if an in-person v. hybrid model works best for them while following strict Department of Health Guidance.
  • The State Police and State Liquor Authority are leading a task force to investigate and shut down establishments not complying with the safety standards of the state.
  • To report violations of health and safety restrictions and requirements for businesses, gatherings and individuals, please choose the appropriate link below:

  • Go to forward.ny.gov[13] to find out: Which phase of reopening your region is in; the industry guidance for each phase; regional dashboards for monitoring how the virus is being contained; and information on loans for small businesses.
  • New Yorkers without health insurance can apply through NY State of Health[14] through August 15, 2020; must apply within 60 days of losing coverage.
  • Health care workers can text NYFRONTLINE to 741-741 to access 24/7 emotional support services. Any New Yorker can call the COVID-19 Emotional Support Hotline at 1-844-863-9314[15] for mental health counseling.
