OSWEGO COUNTY – According to the Oswego County Health Department, as of 3 p.m., there have been 69 additional cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and one more county resident has died since Friday, February 12.

Oswego County Legislature Chairman James Weatherup posted his weekly video briefing today. In the update, he discussed encouraging trends regarding the pandemic.

For the first since early November, the county’s seven-day positivity rate is 1.8%. As of Friday, 16,093 county residents have received the vaccine. Several hundred more received vaccines over the weekend.

Across the state, 9.25% of New Yorkers have received the vaccine. In Oswego County, that number is 10.54% of county residents. The county expects to receive an unknown number of doses to vaccinate those with eligible underlying conditions. More information will be provided as it is learned.

Weatherup thanked the health department’s partners in their help to vaccinate the residents of the county and those who have volunteered their time, services and food to support these efforts.

He said since the beginning of January, the county has spent almost $100,000 on COVID-19 response expenses, and the legislature passed a resolution allowing for an additional $200,000 to be transferred to the county’s COVID response account.

The county has also submitted a claim to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for just under $500,000 for previous COVID-19 expenses. That claim in currently under review and the county is working on a second claim.

The Oswego County Health Department is also partnering with Pulaski Urgent Care to bring free COVID-19 rapid testing to various locations around the county. The next stop for the mobile unit will be at the Hannibal High School, 928 Cayuga St., Hannibal. It runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23. Registration is required. Go to this link[1].

Notes: The total number of positive cases in Oswego County is cumulative since March and the number of recoveries and deaths are of those numbers. SUNY Oswego cases are included in the county numbers, however, the county tracks only those living in Oswego County. That means that students who chose to leave and go back to their home county and test positive there will be included on the college’s dashboard, but not the county’s. Their positive result would be reported to their home county, not here.

SUNY Oswego reset its numbers for the Winter/Spring 2021 semesters and does not include numbers from Aug. 12, 2020 to Jan. 1, 2021. Total cases reported include 188 past positive cases (experienced during the winter break: Nov. 2020 –Jan. 2021) of students residing off-campus, who were required to provide evidence of positive test results and recovery upon returning to campus.
