OSWEGO COUNTY – According to the Oswego County Health Department, as of 3 p.m., there have been 64additional cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and one more county resident has died since Friday, February 5.
Saturday: 28 new cases, one death
Sunday: 14 new cases
Today: 22 new cases
Oswego County continues to see positive cases decrease in recent days. The county’s seven-day accumulated case count has dropped 47%; down from 321 last Monday to 173 today. Oswego Hospital, ConnextCare, several pharmacies, and the Oswego County Health Department continue to deliver vaccine in the county as the supply allows.
“We have seen a slightly increased vaccine supply, but we are still far from having enough supply for everyone who desires to be vaccinated,” said Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang. “All agencies within Oswego County are currently following the state guidance to vaccinate those in Phase 1a, Phase 1b and those aged 65 years and above only. The decrease in positive cases and increased vaccinations; however welcome, do not mean that we can ease our preventive measures. We are still facing emerging coronavirus variants, relative vaccine shortage, and continued ‘caution fatigue’ as the pandemic has stretched on for more than 10 months so far. We will continue to increase testing, trace close contacts, and vaccinate as vaccine becomes available. However, I urge our residents to do their part as well and maintain safe behaviors such as wearing a face mask, social distancing, washing their hands frequently and avoiding non-essential gatherings.”
The Oswego County Health Department is also partnering with Pulaski Urgent Care to bring free COVID-19 rapid testing to various locations around the county. The next stop for the mobile unit will be at the Paul V. Moore High School, 44 School Dr., Central Square. It runs from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 9. Registration is required. Notes: The total number of positive cases in Oswego County is cumulative since March and the number of recoveries and deaths are of those numbers. SUNY Oswego cases are included in the county numbers, however, the county tracks only those living in Oswego County. That means that students who chose to leave and go back to their home county and test positive there will be included on the college’s dashboard, but not the county’s. Their positive result would be reported to their home county, not here.
SUNY Oswego reset its numbers for the Winter/Spring 2021 semesters and does not include numbers from Aug. 12, 2020 to Jan. 1, 2021. Total cases reported include 181 past positive cases (experienced during the winter break: Nov. 2020 –Jan. 2021) of students residing off-campus, who were required to provide evidence of positive test results and recovery upon returning to campus.
