OSWEGO COUNTY – According to the Oswego County Health Department, as of 3 p.m., there have been 46 additional cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and two more county residents have died since yesterday.

“We are sad to report the loss of two more neighbors,” said Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang. “I would like to express our condolences to the family and friends of this patient for their loss. We must all do our part to protect our families and communities to reduce the number of positive cases and prevent future deaths. I urge residents to be diligent in their preventative measures. Wear a face mask, social distance, wash your hands frequently and avoiding non-essential gatherings.”

In the battle against the coronavirus, Huang said that the COVID-19 vaccine has brought both hope and frustration to residents.

“Receiving ample supplies of the vaccine remains our biggest challenge,” Huang said. “It makes it difficult for us to plan clinics, and for our eligible residents to get vaccinations. While we finally had enough vaccines to hold our first large-scale clinics, we know there are many more still looking for an appointment. I understand that it’s frustrating right now, and as soon as we get more vaccines, we will be able to hold more clinics.”

More information on this past Saturday’s vaccine clinic can be found here[1].

“Our County Health department and our health care partners are doing their very best to deploy the vaccine within the guidance and the allotments that New York State has given us,” said Oswego County Legislature Chairman James Weatherup, “We demonstrated our capabilities in our first large-scale vaccination clinic, which went very well, showing that we simply need more vaccines to meet the demand. We are committed to this cause; getting all eligible residents vaccinated as quickly as possible. We are in constant communication with state health officials and the Governor’s office to request more vaccine for Oswego County. We just ask our residents to be patient until we can get sufficient rations of the vaccine.”

Notes: The total number of positive cases in Oswego County is cumulative since March and the number of recoveries and deaths are of those numbers. SUNY Oswego cases are included in the county numbers, however, the county tracks only those living in Oswego County. That means that students who chose to leave and go back to their home county and test positive there will be included on the college’s dashboard, but not the county’s. Their positive result would be reported to their home county, not here.

SUNY Oswego reset its numbers for the Winter/Spring 2021 semesters and does not include numbers from Aug. 12, 2020 to Jan. 1, 2021.
