COVID-19 Statistics Update, January 22, 2021

OSWEGO COUNTY – According to the Oswego County Health Department, as of 3 p.m., there have been 62 additional cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and three more county residents have died since yesterday.

“We are sad to report the loss of three more neighbors,” said Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang. “I would like to express our condolences to the families and friends of these patients for their loss. 

Oswego County Senior Public Health Educator Diane Oldenburg reminds residents that many schools are bringing students back to classrooms this week.

“It’s important for parents to remember that children should not be sent to school if they are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms,” Oldenburg said. “This includes congestion, runny nose, fever, headache, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. Many people who have tested positive for COVID-19 believe that they only have a cold or allergy symptoms. It’s important that you contact your health care provider if you or your children are experiencing any new or worsening symptoms. Getting tested allows the Health Department to start contact tracing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in families, schools and workplaces.”

Notes: The total number of positive cases in Oswego County is cumulative since March and the number of recoveries and deaths are of those numbers. SUNY Oswego cases are included in the county numbers, however, the county tracks only those living in Oswego County. That means that students who chose to leave and go back to their home county and test positive there will be included on the college’s dashboard, but not the county’s. Their positive result would be reported to their home county, not here.

SUNY Oswego reset its numbers for the Winter/Spring 2021 semesters and does not include numbers from Aug. 12, 2020 to Jan. 1, 2021.
