OSWEGO COUNTY – According to the Oswego County Health Department, as of 3 p.m., there have been no additional cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) since yesterday.
The cumulative reported number is still 233 cases across the county and of those, 224 have recovered and four have died.
Oswego County Legislative Chairman James Weatherup posted his weekly video brief today, discussing updates with reopening. He said last week Governor Andrew Cuomo ordered that businesses shall deny entry to customers not wearing a face covering unless that person has a medical condition or is under the age of 2 years old.
“I want to emphasize that it is not the business owner’s choice to allow customers without masks,” Weatherup said. “Businesses must turn away customers who refuse to wear their masks. There is a process for filing complaints and penalties will be enforced for businesses that continue to violate the governor’s orders.”
Diane Oldenburg, senior public health educator for the Oswego County Health Department, said walk-in testing for COVID-19 is available at WellNow Urgent Care in Oswego, testing by appointment is available at the Pulaski Urgent Care, and testing ordered by a physician is available at Oswego Hospital.
She said the time it takes to receive results varies based on which lab the test is sent to and the county health department has no control over how quickly the results are reported by the lab.
“Please continue to do your part and help stop the spread of COVID-19,” Weatherup said. “This has a been a long, hard stretch for all of us. Do what needs to be done and follow the rules. It will not only protect you, but of those around you, including friends who are struggling to keep their businesses open and members of our community’s employed.”
County Updates:
The Oswego County Health Department announced that the Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) virus was detected in one mosquito pool collected from the field station at Toad Harbor Swamp in the town of West Monroe. More information can be found here[1].

The next rabies clinic will run from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29 at the Oswego County Highway Garage on Centerville Rd. in Pulaski. Call 315-349-3557[3] now to schedule an appointment for the rabies clinic in Pulaski.
The Oswego County Office for the Aging (OFA) will hold a drive-thru distribution event for seniors to receive farmers’ market coupons from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, at the Pulaski Middle School. Visitors should use the north parking lot at 4624 Salina St.

The county has stopped releasing data for pending results, number of people in precautionary quarantine and total number completed/released from monitoring. Data will not be released on Sundays. Antibody test results are released once a week.
All known contacts of COVID-19 positive patients are being notified. In the event that a known case had public exposure when they were contagious, such as someone who worked in a restaurant, the county health department would alert citizens through the news media and social media.

COVID-19 has been identified in the cities of Fulton and Oswego and the towns of Amboy, Boylston, Constantia, Granby, Hannibal, Hastings, Mexico, Minetto, New Haven, Orwell, Oswego, Palermo, Parish, Redfield, Richland, Sandy Creek, Schroeppel, Scriba, Volney, West Monroe and Williamstown.
The county does not release the town/city of individual cases. If there has been a new case and a new area has not been added, that means it is in an area that has already been affected before. Once an area is added it is not removed from the list because the county does not say when a town/city no longer has a case.
