OSWEGO COUNTY – According to the Oswego County Health Department, as of 3 p.m. today, there have been four additional cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) since yesterday.

The cumulative reported number is 191 cases across the county and of those, 126 people have recovered and four have died.

Oswego County Legislature Chairman James Weatherup posted a briefing video today to the county’s YouTube channel when he discussed Phase 4[1] of reopening, which our region is on track to begin tomorrow.

As a state decision, some, but not all of the Phase 4 activities will be able to resume.

“We had hoped that movie theaters, bowling alleys, gyms and events like outdoor concerts would be allowed to resume tomorrow, but these types of activities are still considered too much of a risk for spreading COVID-19,” Weatherup said. “The good news is is that more people will be able to participate in indoor worship service, up to 33% of the facility’s capacity starting tomorrow. Group gatherings of up to 50 people will be allowed, up from 25. Indoor and outdoor venues that have low risk activity, such as museums and nature parks, can also reopen at limited capacity.”

Weatherup said there has also been new guidelines issued for college[2] and low risk indoor[3] and outdoor[4] activities.

Diane Oldenburg, Senior Public Health Educator for Oswego County Health Department, also gave an update on the investigation of the cluster of COVID-19 cases at Champlain Valley Specialties in the Town of Oswego.  All 87 of the employees who live in Oswego County were tested and all test results have come back today. She said 37 employees who live in Oswego County were lab-confirmed for COVID-19.

“The Oswego County Preventive Services team reached out to all positive individuals to identify their close contacts,” Oldenburg said. “The investigation indicated further need for testing to protect the Oswego County community. With the State Department of Health and the support of many community agencies, several testing sessions were deployed in the county to expand testing since July 16. The expanded testing did find additional positive residents in the community who appear to be linked to the positive cases already found. These newly found positives and their close contacts were quickly notified and isolated or quarantined if it was warranted.”

Weatherup also gave a few reminders of upcoming events:

Today’s statistics are below.

Oswego County:[5] (as of 3 p.m.) Note, the total number of positive cases is cumulative and the number of recoveries and deaths are of those numbers.

  • Total # of active cases: 61 (yesterday: 57)
  • Total # of positive cases: 191 (yesterday: 187)
  • Total recoveries: 126 (no change since yesterday)
  • Total # of deaths: 4 (no change since yesterday)

  • Total # of positive antibody tests: 50 (as of June 25)
  • Total # of negative antibody tests: 2,182 (as of June 25)

The county has stopped releasing data for pending results, number of people in precautionary quarantine and total number completed/released from monitoring. Data will not be released on Sundays. Antibody test results are released once a week.

All known contacts of COVID-19 positive patients are being notified. In the event that a known case had public exposure when they were contagious, such as someone who worked in a restaurant, the county health department would alert citizens through the news media and social media.

Areas With Cases (alphabetical order):

COVID-19 has been identified in the cities of Fulton and Oswego and the towns of Boylston, Constantia, Granby, Hannibal, Hastings, Mexico, Minetto, New Haven, Orwell, Oswego, Palermo, Parish, Redfield, Richland, Sandy Creek, Schroeppel, Scriba, Volney, West Monroe and Williamstown.

The county does not release the town/city of individual cases. If there has been a new case and a new area has not been added, that means it is in an area that has already been affected before. Once an area is added it is not removed from the list because the county does not say when a town/city no longer has a case.
