OSWEGO COUNTY – According to the Oswego County Health Department, as of 3 p.m., there have been 57 additional cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) since yesterday.

Today there are 365 active cases across the county.

SUNY Oswego reported one new case since yesterday.

The county’s 7-day rolling average of positive cases is 3.7%, which is down slightly from last week (last Tuesday was 4.1%).

Oswego County Legislature Chairman James Weatherup posted his weekly public briefing video today. In the briefing, he discussed a partnership between the county and area school districts in the hopes of improving COVID-19 response across the county and streamline the reporting and notification process, which aims to avoid duplicated or missing information.

Weatherup said based on the infected person’s activities at school, the health department determines who should be quarantined and the schools will notify the close contacts. State contact tracers will follow up daily. The health department continues to notify close contacts outside of school communities.

Weatherup said the county has seen an increase of 53% in positive cases within the past two weeks, calling it a “frightening milestone” that is pushing the public health system to the limit.

“The lack of community compliance, by what is probably a minority of people, is placing a burden on everyone,” Weatherup said.

He said the county has a shortage of personal protective equipment and testing resources. Weatherup also said given the increase of cases within the past two weeks, the health department’s preventative nurses and investigators are working every day to trace positive cases and reach out to close contacts.

The Oswego County Health Department is investigating several confirmed COVID-19 cases, identifying close contacts, and announcing potential public exposure to the virus. Anyone who visited any of the following locations at these dates and times may have been exposed to COVID-19:

Today’s statistics are below:

Oswego County:[2] (as of 3 p.m.) Note, the total number of positive cases is cumulative since March and the number of recoveries and deaths are of those numbers. SUNY Oswego cases are included in the county numbers, however, the county tracks only those living in Oswego County. That means that students who chose to leave and go back to their home county and test positive there will be included on the college’s dashboard, but not the county’s. Their positive result would be reported to their home county, not here.
