COVID-19 Statistics Update, November 9, 2020

OSWEGO COUNTY – According to the Oswego County Health Department, as of 3 p.m., there have been 47 additional cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) since Saturday, November 7.

The cumulative reported number is 944 cases across the county and of those, 806 have recovered and five have died.

SUNY Oswego reported four new cases since Saturday.

The 47 positive cases reported today are a combined total from Sunday and Monday. Together with the cases reported on Saturday and Friday, there are total of 105 positive cases reported in the last four days.

“We have seen a drastic increase in positive cases in the past few days,” said Huang. “Many of the cases are related to social gatherings held seven to 10 days ago. Small clusters originate in families, households, and groups, and then the virus spreads fast through social gatherings. We need to realize that the cases reported today reflect our activities from one to even two weeks ago. It takes time for the virus to develop symptoms in our bodies.”

Today’s cases are from the cities of Oswego and Fulton, along with 11 towns from across the county.

“COVID-19 is still in our communities,” said Huang. “We need to enhance our preventive actions now to limit the spread of the virus. We must avoid non-essential gatherings, practice social distancing, wear our face coverings and wash our hands frequently.”

The Oswego County Health Department is investigating a confirmed case of COVID-19 in an employee of the Altmar Hotel, 6 Mill St., Altmar.

Today Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that areas in Onondaga County (Oswego County’s neighbor) have been declared in a Yellow Zone of the new Cluster Action Initiative. When an area enters a Yellow Zone (precautionary zone), that means there are certain restrictions.

Note* This does not apply to Oswego County.

Activity restrictions include:

Over the past ten days, parts of Onondaga County have had 7-day average positivity rates above 3%, and cases per 100,000 and new daily hospital admissions have increased, meeting the metrics for a yellow zone designation, according to the state[2].

Today’s statistics are below:

Oswego County:[4] (as of 3 p.m.) Note, the total number of positive cases is cumulative since March and the number of recoveries and deaths are of those numbers. SUNY Oswego cases are included in the county numbers, however, the county tracks only those living in Oswego County. That means that students who chose to leave and go back to their home county and test positive there will be included on the college’s dashboard, but not the county’s. Their positive result would be reported to their home county, not here.
