COVID-19 Statistics Update, September 4, 2020

OSWEGO COUNTY – According to the Oswego County Health Department, as of 3 p.m., there have been 12 additional cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) since yesterday.

The cumulative reported number is 332 cases across the county and of those, 293 have recovered and four have died.

“None of the cases reported today are associated with any restaurants known for recent public exposures,” said Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang. “However, we have seen an increase of COVID-19 activity this week and some of these cases have demonstrated a tendency to cluster. The Oswego County Health Department is working closely with community members and the state Department of Health to monitor and contain the disease. We are assessing any possible public exposures to inform the public as quickly as we can. As soon as any possible public exposure is identified, a press release will be issued. County residents must continue to diligently practice handwashing, face-masking, and social distancing.”

Oswego County:[1] (as of 3 p.m.) Note, the total number of positive cases is cumulative and the number of recoveries and deaths are of those numbers.

  • Total # of active cases: 35 (yesterday: 25)
  • Total # of positive cases: 332 (yesterday: 320)
  • Total # of recoveries: 293 (yesterday: 291)
  • Total # of hospitalizations: 25 (no change from yesterday)
  • Total # of deaths: 4 (no change from yesterday)
  • Total # tests: 38,666 (yesterday: 37,913)
  • Total # of negative results: 38,112 (yesterday: 37,370)
  • Total # of people in mandatory isolation/quarantine: 147 (yesterday: 134)
  • Total # of positive antibody tests: 81 (as of Sept. 3)
  • Total # of negative antibody tests: 3,263 (as of Sept. 3)

The county has stopped releasing data for pending results, number of people in precautionary quarantine and total number completed/released from monitoring. Data will not be released on Saturdays or Sundays. Antibody test results are released once a week.

In the event that a person who tests positive for COVID-19 had public exposure when they were contagious and the health department could not contact those at risk individually, a news release is issued. Investigations go back two days prior to symptom onset for symptomatic positive patients, or two days prior to testing for asymptomatic positive patients, up until the time a positive patient is isolated.

6-10 confirmed cases: Mexico, New Haven, West Monroe

11-20 confirmed cases: Constantia, Oswego Town, Richland, Scriba, Volney

21-30 confirmed cases: Schroeppel

31-40 confirmed cases: Granby, Hastings

41-50 confirmed cases: No municipality

Over 50 confirmed cases: City of Fulton, City of Oswego

  • Total # of new positive cases this week: 5 (Aug. 31 – Sept. 6) This includes 3 students on-campus and 2 off-campus.
  • Total # of cumulative positive cases (since Aug. 12): 8
  • Total # of recoveries: 1
  • Total # of student tests: 5,720
  • Total # of students in on-campus quarantine: 21
  • Total # of students in on-campus isolation: 3

Other updates[5] from the state include:

  • Governor Cuomo has partnered with New Jersey Governor Murphy and Connecticut Governor Lamont to create a joint travel advisory for individuals traveling from states with significant community spread of COVID-19, requiring a quarantine for 14 days when visiting their states.
  • Based on each region’s infection rate, schools across New York State are permitted to open this fall but each school district must have a testing and tracing plan and will decide if an in-person v. hybrid model works best for them while following strict Department of Health Guidance.
  • Malls in New York City will be allowed to reopen starting September 9 with a 50 percent occupancy limit but will be subject to strict safety protocols.
  • Casinos and video lottery terminal facilities statewide will be allowed to reopen starting September 9 with a 25 percent occupancy limit but will be subject to strict safety protocols.

  • New Yorkers without health insurance can apply through NY State of Health[9] through September 15, 2020; must apply within 60 days of losing coverage.
  • Health care workers can text NYFRONTLINE to 741-741 to access 24/7 emotional support services. Any New Yorker can call the COVID-19 Emotional Support Hotline at 1-844-863-9314[10] for mental health counseling.
