Drowning in Oswego County

On Tuesday, August 12^th, 2025, at around 9:31 PM, members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the shore of Lake Ontario, west of the SUNY Oswego Campus, off County Route 89 in the Town of Oswego, for a man reported in the water.

Members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s, along with members of the Town of Oswego Volunteer Fire Department, Oswego City Fire Department, Oswego City Police, and New York State Police searched for the man.  Around 10:20 PM, the man, identified as Barratt Gorman, was found in the water and pronounced dead.  Barratt was 76 and lived nearby on County Route 89.  He was swimming at the time of the incident and routinely swam in the area.

This incident is still under investigation.
