SCRIBA— The Scriba Fire Department was activated at 2:04AM on July 8th to a smoke condition at 2179 County Route 1 where a double wide mobile home was found to have heavy smoke coming from the center of the structure.
Fire crews were faced with the tough task of locating and accessing the fire, as it was located underneath the home in a crawl space. Additional support was provided on scene from Novelis Fire, Oswego City Fire, Minetto Fire, New Haven Fire, Oswego Town Fire, Oswego County Sheriff’s, Oswego County Fire Coordinators, Menter Ambulance and Oswego County 911. The mobile cascade unit was requested to support breathing air operations. Volney Fire provided a standby crew to cover the surrounding districts during the call.
The fire was extinguished at 3:41AM. The cause of the fire is still being investigated; it is believed to be accidental. The homeowner was alerted to the fire by working smoke detectors and was able to evacuate themselves and their pets prior to any departments being activated. We urge everyone to regularly check their smoke detectors and ensure they are in proper working order.
