FULTON, NY – Lucas Bohn has always been “very interested in comedy.” On Saturday (Oct. 7) he will use his talents to benefit the Fulton’s Future Project to build a better future through the arts.

CNY Arts Center will host the national touring comedian at the Oasis at Thunder Island for “an evening of fun and celebration.”
Assemblyman Will Barclay will serve as honorary chairperson for the fundraiser.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. for food, beverages and pre-show festivities to include gift baskets, door prizes, silent auctions and a live auction for accommodations at Chase Lake Lodge in the Adirondacks.
Bohn is set to hit the stage at 8 p.m.
All proceeds will benefit the Fulton’s Future Project.
The evening will also premiere CNY Arts Center’s new promotional video created by Daylight Blue Media as the result of a grant from The Gifford Foundation, along with a preview of the new youth comedy improv troupe, Slouch Hat Productions.
“When I was young, I would borrow comedy tapes from our local library and spend hours listening to them. Rodney Dangerfield and Henny Youngman were my favorites,” Bohn said.
When he was in the seventh grade, his grandparents took him on a cruise and he entered a talent show.
“I told about 10 minutes of jokes and it was a huge hit. I loved the feeling of people laughing at me. It just felt right, like I was supposed to do something where I was in front of people,” he said.
After a few years of teaching and doing comedy part-time, he decided it was time to move from “Lesson Plans to Late Night.”
“It was a terrifying time in my life. I knew that financially I was able to quit my day job and pursue my dream of being a full-time comedian. But I was scared. I was giving up a salary, healthcare and retirement,” he said.
He talked it over with his wife and she was so supportive.

She said, “Go for it. You’ll only regret it later on in life if you don’t take this chance now,” he said, adding that “Listening to her advice was the best decision I’ve ever made – other than marrying her, of course!”
“Lesson Plans to Late Night” is a one-man comedy show about Bohn’s transition from elementary school teacher to national touring comedian.
He tours more than 45 weeks a year and headlines shows at colleges, theaters and on cruise ships all over the globe. And, he’s performed for charities and fundraisers such as Childhelp, Habitat for Humanity and the George Washington Medical Center.
“I’ve also done work with Comics on Duty and performed for the troops. That was a very humbling and rewarding experience,” he said.
Thunder Island is located at 21 Wilcox Road, just south of Fulton.
Tickets are available online at CNYArtsCenter.com or call the Arts Center at 315-598-ARTS (2787).
