Fairgrieve Elementary Students Transition To Online Only Learning Until December 1

FULTON – Fulton City School District announced that all students attending Fairgrieve Elementary are transitioning to remote learning through November 24 and return December 1.

Additionally, grade 6 students at Fulton Junior High temporality switched to online only for yesterday and today.

Superintendent Brian Pulvino sent out the following letter to the FCSD community:

Dear FCSD Families: 

We have two important updates to report. Please read this information carefully. 

UPDATE REGARDING FAIRGRIEVE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 

This afternoon we were informed that two students (grade 2 and grade 4) and a staff member who serves several  grade levels at Fairgrieve and a small number of students at Fulton Junior High have tested positive for COVID 19. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution, we are transitioning all students who attend Fairgrieve  Elementary School (grades Pre-K through five) to remote learning through November 24, 2020. We plan for  students to return to in-person learning on December 1, following the Thanksgiving break (November 25-27) and the typical remote leaning Monday on November 30. 

Please review the following information about contact tracing in this incident: 

• The positive students did not have symptoms and were last in school on November 12. The positive staff  member was last at work on November 13. 
• According to Health Department guidelines, contact tracing includes individuals who have close contact  with a COVID positive individual in the 48 hours prior to a positive test result or first sign of symptoms.  ? Contact tracing on these students will go back to contacts from Friday, November 13 and after.  ? Contact tracing on the positive staff member will go back to November 9.  

? Any individuals (staff or students) who had contact with the positive staff member will be  contacted by a FCSD administrator and the Oswego County Department of Health. ? If you do not receive a call, but are concerned about potential exposure, please do not hesitate to  contact your child’s school. 

UPDATE REGARDING GRADE 6 AT FULTON JUNIOR HIGH 

We were informed that two students were exposed to COVID positive individuals outside of school. 

Out of an abundance of caution, we are transitioning sixth grade to remote learning on Tuesday, November 17 and Wednesday, November 18, 2020 only, while we await test results.  All other grade levels at Fulton Junior High will continue to learn in-person as scheduled.

FCSD COVID DECISION-MAKING PROCESS 

It is important to note that the precautions we are taking in the Fulton City School District are beyond what  is required by the Department of Health. We take these additional precautions to ensure that we have the best  chance at preventing the spread of COVID in our community. The safety precautions in place at school, including  using a cohort model where students remain in small groups, limiting movement, maintaining six feet of social  distancing, wearing masks and practicing frequent hand washing/sanitation are working to limit our risk and 

contain exposure. When we make strategic and targeted moves to remote learning for some groups of students and  staff – even if not required based on Department of Health guidelines – it also helps to limit risk. Our collective  efforts do make a difference. 

In addition, we are including a document that outlines our COVID decision-making process, for your information.

REMOTE LEARNING  

We want to be sure all of our students continue learning during this period of remote instruction.  

• Students who will be learning remotely should log in to their morning meeting on Google meet at 9:10  am each school day. The link to the meeting can be found in their Google classroom. Teachers will  provide additional direction and support. 

CHILDCARE 

If families have difficulty with childcare because of this temporary transition to remote learning, the Fulton Family  YMCA has some space available in its school-aged child care program. Drop-ins are welcome, as long as there is  space. The cost is $34 per day. Contact the YMCA at 315-598-9622 for more information. 

HEALTH AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS 

Anyone experiencing COVID symptoms should stay at home and immediately contact their health care  provider.  

• Symptoms include: fever, chills, congestion, runny nose, loss of taste or smell, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting,  headache or body aches.  
• Anyone with questions or concerns about COVID-19 can also contact the Oswego County Health  Department COVID Hotline at 315-349-3330. 

As you are aware, cases in our region have been increasing. We must be sure to follow all safety precautions  recommended by the Department of Health and Centers for Disease Control to stop the spread of the virus  outside of school, too.  

• Stay home and avoid gatherings whenever possible; 
• Wear a face covering that covers your mouth and nose when around others in public; 
• Maintain at least six feet of physical distance;  
• Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer frequently.
